Especially since, despite the people chiming in saying they'll still play it, it appears to me from the server info thread that ArsClan no longer has a vanilla BF1942 server anymore, just a BF:V and a DC/EoD server. How do you expect to play an old game with people still playing online, when there has been a revamp of the original one Yes, get Call Of Duty. Honestly, though, I mirror Psion's concerns about finding a playerbase. Meh, I still think you wasted your money. Assuming you can still find a player base for BF1942, I'd get it if you want vehicular combat and BF:V if you're content with vehicles playing a minor role. Then again, BF1942 was also really fun to play. Battlefield 1942 encourages team work, or work two or three players together to cover human weaponstank, or just infantry sniper attack base. I can't say what it is, exactly, but I just find it really enjoyable to play despite those flaws. Almost every time I fire up BF:V I say to myself "This isn't a very good game- the vehicles are worthless, the game consists of running around capturing undefended flags because moving unseen is so easy, and the game takes forever to load between levels." (ok, that last one is the fault of my aging computer) Then I end up playing for like 5 hours solid. Which basically leaves you with more trees, some Vietnam maps and skins, and an in-game MP3 player with copies of 10 songs your mother would like. The supposedly enhanced graphics don't make it look a whole lot better, but means the map size must be restricted and the game in general runs at a lower FPS than BF42 most of the gameplay changes are trivial (like the inane flag-capture mechanism) or worse than the original (FOOT COMBAT, amazingly) and the interface is even more clunky and ugly than it was in BF42. Also the advantages of BF:V are a bit hard to determine.

IMO it's unlikely that BFV will ever sell as many copies as BF has, so any mod team would be moving to a game with a smaller potential player base. I don't think BF:V will be that attractive to the existing mod teams. What should be really interesting is the new (untitled) game that the DICE Europe team are working on with Trauma Studios, the mod team ewho created Desert Combat. Also it's wrong to see BF:V as the Rightful Heir to Battlefield 1942 - The DICE Europe team who created BF42 have had little to do with BF:V, which was produced by a Canadian team. BFV has been out a few weeks, to mixed reviews. BF42 has been in the bestseller lists week after week since it came out about 18 months ago. I honestly don't think that the BF42 player base is slipping to BF:V.

I'd rather play the free mods that have come out for BF42, such as Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope and BF1918 among others.
BF:V is little more than an expansion pack anyway, and not a very good one IMHO.
